One of the oldest brands, these cigars were established in 1885, and are considered a pre-revolution brand. The brand was created by the Sociedad Cabanas y Castro, and then bought by Jose F. Rocha in 1905, who was producing the cigars at his factory at the 364 Miguel Street in Havana.
However, after he died, the brand was acquired by the famous Cifuentes family, who has also bought the Bolivar brand from that manufacturer. The production of this eminent brand has been moved to the Partagas Factory, where it is still produced nowadays.
The brand has generally mild to medium strength, with perfect ageing and flavor potential; it became famous due to the Pepin Fernandez' efforts, the owner of the Romeo y Julieta brand, who helped his friends reveal this brand to the world and make it one of the most desirable ones.
The brand is only hand-made, which also adds to its value, and could boast with such cigars as Inmensos 898, Medaille Dor No. 1, Medaille d'Or No. 2, Medaille d'Or No. 3, Medaille d'Or No. 4, Tainos and some others. It is "totalmente a mano, tripa larga" which is translated in English as totally handmade, long filler cigars. The tobacco used for blending the La Gloria Cubana brand is grown at the Vuelta Abajo region, classified as medium bodied.
