The first mention of the Rafael Gonzales brand occurs in 1928, when this brand was founded under a different name - La Flor de Marquez. Eight years later, the company's trademark was also registered by the Sociedad El Rey del Mundo. Only in 1945, the brand got its current name.
If you are a Lonsdale lover, you might be interested to know that it was Rafael Gonzales that first used the name "Lonsdale" to describe a 6 ? inch (165mm) long cigar with a 42 ring gauge cigar. It was named after Hugh Cecil Lowther, the famous Fifth Earl of Lonsdale who was also a cigar lover. Nowadays, many other cigar companies also use this name.
On the lid of each Rafael Gonzales box, you will find an inscription saying that cigars should be smoked within four weeks of the shipment date or aged for around a year.
Rafael Gonzalez cigars include a smooth tasting blend of tobacco leaves grown in the famous Vuelta Abajo region. All vitolas are produced "totalmente a mano, tripa larga" - completely by hand, using long filler.
The brand is produced at the Romeo y Julieta factory together with many other Cuban cigar brands that you can find at My-Cuban-Cigars.com, and features many small vitolas, such as the Slenderellars (28 ring gauge), Panetelas (34 ring gauge) or Panetelas Extra (37 ring gauge). However, you will also find the Coronas Extra with a 46 ring gauge that will give you a smoking experience of about an hour and a half.
