The history of this royal brand is quite peculiar - it was created by German entrepreneur Emilio Ohmstedt in 1848, but became popular only around 1882, when the company was passed to Spanish businessman Antonio Allones. Under the rule of the Spaniard, El Rey del Mundo (which means "King of the World" in Spanish) reached its height of prestige and popularity. El Rey del Mundo cigars with dark and oily wrappers were the most expensive Cuban cigars available in the mid-20th century.
In 1905, the cigar company was acquired by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia firm, whose name was later changed to Rey del Mundo Cigar Co. to honor its most famous brand (though the venture also produced such renowned brands as Rafael Gonzalez, Sancho Panza and Don Candido).
Production did not cease after the Revolution as the company continued enjoying popularity through the 1970s. The brand gave its place to such brands as Montecristo or Cohiba when stronger cigars came into vogue but Rey del Mundo cigars are still valued for their special mild flavor.
The range offered by El Rey del Mundo includes light to medium strength cigars made from tobacco from the famous Vuelta Abajo region in the province of Pinar del Rio in Cuba. There is a non-Cuban company having the same name, but here at My-Cuban-Cigars.com, we offer you the original Cuban brand. You will find short, small and long panetelas, Lonsdales, small coronas and many other delicate-flavored cigars, with the Choix Supreme, Demi Tasse and Grandes de Espana vitolas being especially popular among cigar aficionados.
